Thomas De Lussac, born on October 3, 1967, in Paris, is a French designer renowned for his significant contributions to the field of design. He is the founder of "DE LUSSAC" design studio and also the co-founder of NamX HUV, an innovative hydrogen-powered car brand.

Childhood and Education

Raised in Saint-Agil, Loir-et-Cher, France, Thomas developed an early interest in drawing and natural materials like wood and stone, influenced by his father, a passionate expert in forestry and rural heritage, and his mother, a Parisian interior architect, who imparted an artistic sensibility and an appreciation for furniture and architecture. He earned an MBA in International Marketing in San Francisco in 1991.

Career

In 1994, Thomas established his own export office, representing French design and decoration brands in Europe and the United States. This venture provided him with deep market insight and a creative library, setting the stage for launching his production. A self-taught designer, he had no formal training in design or drawing before pursuing his passion.

In 1998, shortly after France's World Cup victory, he showcased his first creation at Diners en Ville - a hand-painted Limoges porcelain service, immediately purchased by Catherine Deneuve on the day of its exhibition.

By 2000, he founded "De Lussac Studio", expanding his oeuvre to include furniture and objects in collaboration with French artisans and SMEs. His notable works include the "Osmose" coffee table, produced by Roche Bobois (2001-2007), and self-edited collections "Géométries", "Studio", and "T2L", exhibited at international shows in Paris, London, and Tokyo.

The studio's diversification continued with playful urban furniture for AFF Mobilier Urbain, perfume bottles for Davidoff, an inflatable surfboard for Surf Air, jewellery for Chow Tai Fook - the Chinese jewellery leader, and a smart bulb for Bell & Wyson. These creations earned him several design awards, including the Janus de l'Industrie 2014, the Étoile de l'Observeur 2015, the 2015 Product Design Award from Stratégie magazine, and the 2015 INPI Talents.

From 2017 onwards, Thomas collaborated with Faouzi Annajah to launch NamX HUV, a hydrogen car brand where he serves as co-founder and design director. With his studio, he developed the "CAPX" ecosystem, a hydrogen capsule refuelling system, equipping their SUV, designed in partnership with the renowned automotive design studio Pininfarina and launched in 2022.
