A provider of scientific apparatus, reagents and consumables, as well as software services, Thermo Fisher Scientific is a company based in the United States. Thermo Fisher, with its headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts, was established in 2006 as the result of the merger of Thermo Electron and Fisher Scientific. Other companies that supply reagents, consumables, instruments, and services have been purchased by Thermo Fisher in recent years. These companies include: Life Technologies Corporation (2013), Alfa Aesar (2015), Affymetrix (2016), FEI Company (2016), and BD Advanced Bioprocessing (2016).

As of the end of the year 2017, the corporation was a member of the Fortune 500 and had a market valuation of $21 billion. As of the year 2018, the corporation had a total workforce of over 70,000 people and had annual sales of approximately $US 24 billion.

To assist in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Thermo Fisher emergency use authorisation in March of 2020 for a test that detects SARS-CoV-2.
