Theatre director
Unifying various endeavours and aspects of production, a theatre director or stage director is a professional in the theatre field who supervises and orchestrates the mounting of an entertainment production such as a play or opera as well as dance and drama productions, musical theatre performances, and other similar events. The director's role is to guarantee that a theatrical performance is of high quality and completeness, as well as to guide the members of the creative team in bringing their artistic vision to fruition. A collaborative effort between the director and a group of creative people and other members of the production team is necessary to coordinate research and work on all elements of the production, including the technical and performance components. Stagecraft, costume design, theatrical properties (props), lighting design, set design, and sound design are some of the technical elements of the performance. Acting, dancing, orchestra, chanting, and stage fighting are some of the performance elements.
When staging a new piece of writing or a (new) translation of a play, the director may collaborate with the writer or translator as well as with the actors. When it comes to modern theatre, the director is usually seen as the primary visionary, making choices on the creative idea and interpretation of the play as well as the staging of the performance. Depending on the organisation and ideology of various theatre groups, different directors have a variety of positions of power and responsibility. Various methods, ideologies, and degrees of cooperation are used by directors in their work.
