The Wise is a independent and community-made short film released by Filmsaboutfish and Clifton Parish Churches, Nottingham in late 2025. It was premiered at Holy Trinity Church with St Francis, Clifton, Nottingham on 20th December 2025 and released on YouTube the same day.

Plot

The storyline is an interpretation of the Magi's journey in the Bible to discover Jesus. Specifically from the books of Micah, Isaiah and Matthew.

The Wise, Tobias, Professor Ruth and Micaiah meet in an amateur astronomy club SECU (Space Explorers Chasing Unity). After discovering a new star (which is initially confused with the International Space Station), they conclude it must signify the prophecies of Isaiah and Micah.

The three set out on a journey in find the promised king and saviour. The anxious King Herod hears of their journey and potential new king, requesting that the Magi visit him at the palace.

Production

Rehearsals commenced in September 2025, with the first scenes shot at the end of September of the same year.

The film was shot on locations in Clifton, Ruddington, Silverdale and Nottingham in England.

The Director of Photography used a single camera shooting method, with much of the footage captured on a Panasonic Lumix GH5.

Reception

Southwell Diocese and West Bridgford Wire described the film as having a timely narrative.[1][2]
