The Session is a British rock band formed in Coventry, West Midlands in 2002 and featuring brother and sister Dean and Sheryl MacDonald. The band has released five studio albums and nine singles. The band have played more than 500 live performances, including the Godiva Festival main stage in 2016 and 2019 and The Session's 21 year anniversary event at the HMV Empire in Coventry in 2023.
Background
The band was formed in early 2002 when Dean and Sheryl, along with their cousins Ian and Dave MacDonald, began holding jam sessions in the early hours of the morning at 93 Berkeley Road South in Earlsdon, Coventry. The house quickly became mission HQ for the early band and sessions would go on into the early hours. All of the songs from the first album were written at the house but when reports of excessive noise were made to the local police, it was decided the band needed to take the music on the road and find a more suitable venue.
Style
They consist of vocalist and guitarist Dean MacDonald, vocalist Sheryl Maclean, guitarist Mark Boorman, bassist Dave Chambers and drummer Dave Richardson. Despite having undergone a few line-up changes over the years, the band has always remained productive and continues to record new material and perform a regular schedule of live gigs.
Side projects
Dean MacDonald has released three solo singles and appeared live at the Godiva Festival in 2023.
