Tequila Baby was a Brazilian musical band of punk rock formed in 1994 in the city of Porto Alegre, having in its last formation, Duda Calvin (Singer), James Andrew (Eletric Guitar), Rodrigo Gaspareto (Bass Guitar) And Rafael Heck (Drums).[1]

The band released a demo tape called "Sombrero, Fiesta Y Rock'n'Roll" in 1995 [2]

History

Formed in 1994 by Duda Calvin, James Andrew, Paulo Stenzel, Thiago Hoch, and Didi Gloor.

The band didn't have a name, but they had to open for Wander Wildner. In a conversation with him, Wildner said that a drink name always worked. So Wildner suggested Tequila, but Tequila was generic, and Wildner mistakenly thought there were girls in the band and suggested Tequila Baby. [3] Thiago didn't stay long in the band, being replaced by Rodrigo Deltoro.

The band recorded a demo tape in 1995, called "Fiesta, Sombrero y Rock'n'Roll." Paulo left the band shortly before recording the first album

Tequila Baby

Released in 1996, the eponymous album Tequila Baby, by the Antídoto label, was heavily inspired by the Ramones' first three albums. Were nominated for the Açorianos award as the revelation band [4]

Sangue, Ouro e Pólvora

In 2000, the group's second album, "Sangue, Ouro e Pólvora" was released, which not only kept the Ramones' punk spirit alive but also took a turn toward hardcore. It's a fast-paced album that began to attract the attention of punk rock fans across the country, especially with the song "Velhas Fotos," perhaps the most memorable of their entire career. [5]

This ends up attracting the attention of punk rock idols worldwide, such as Marky Ramone, drummer for the Ramones, who ends up playing a show with them (repeating the dose five more times throughout the band's career) and Greg Graffin, lead singer of the band Bad Religion, who plays a show in Porto Alegre wearing a t-shirt from the band, a show that had Tequila Baby as the opening act. [6]

Punk Rock Até os Ossos

In 2002, the band ended up using some experimentalism on their third album, "Punk Rock Até os Ossos", a slightly slower and more elaborate album, produced by Daniel Rey (who had already produced the Ramones) and which had Marky Ramone participating on one track. [7]

But the fact is that this album is the band's best in terms of rock and roll. That same year, the group performed at the closing night of Planeta Atlântida in Rio Grande do Sul, playing their own songs and Ramones covers, the latter with Marky Ramone and Daniel Rey.

A Ameaça Continua

In 2004, Daniel Rey returned to Brazil to produce "A Ameaça Continua", an album that solidified the band's identity. Fast-paced, like "Sangue, Ouro e Pólvora", yet well-produced and mature, like "Punk Rock Até Os Ossos". [8]

In November of the same year, due to internal problems that were never explained, and almost 10 years with a formation that won thousands of fans, bassist Rodrigo Deltoro and drummer Didi Gloor were replaced by Otto Branco and Rafael Heck, respectively.

Marky Ramone & Tequila Baby

In late 2005, the band reunited with Marky Ramone to play Ramones classics on a short tour that visited four cities in southern Brazil. This reunion led Marky to suggest the band record a live CD and DVD featuring their own songs and those of the Ramones, which was completed the following year. Continuing the live CD and DVD project, on May 11, 2006, Tequila Baby, along with Marky Ramone and special guest Sebastian Expulsado (from the Argentine band Los Expulsados), performed at the concert for their second live album and first DVD, which was released in August of the same year. [9] They were nominated for the Açorianos award for best DVD [10]

Lobos Não Usam Coleira

Then, as expected, in October 2008, the album "Lobos Não Usam Coleira" was released. This is the title of the long-awaited fifth studio album by the band from Rio Grande do Sul, which, for the first time and independently, was released in two formats: digital and physical (CD). [11]

Por Onde Você Andava?

"Por Onde Você Andava?" is the band's sixth studio album. Recorded in early 2012, the album tells 14 stories that Tequila experienced or heard from the band's surroundings, fans, and friends. [12] After the album's release, a new guitarist began to write his story in the band: Williams Duarte (guitarist), who joined in 2012.

In 2013, Tequila Baby's then-bassist, Davi Pacote, left the band, being replaced by Rodrigo Gaspareto. Rodrigo Gaspareto is a longtime friend and fan of the band, having played with Duda Calvin on other stages in his life.
