A television director is in charge of all of the actions that take place during the production of a television show or segment of a programme. Most often, they are in charge of making choices on the editorial content and creative style of a show, and they are in charge of ensuring that the producer's vision is realised. It is possible that they may be tasked for developing programme ideas, recruiting contributors, creating scripts, arranging "shoots," assuring safety, managing the production team on site, directing contributors and presenters, and collaborating with an editor to put the final product together. The job of a television director may be quite varied depending on the nature of the show, the procedures of the production business, whether the programme material is factual or dramatic, and whether the programme is broadcast live or taped on television.
