TEEN TRUTH is an educational services company dedicated to empowering student voice, enhancing school culture, and promoting student resilience.[1][2][3] The initiative was founded by JC Pohl[4] and Erahm Christopher[5] with the aim of providing students with a platform to address pressing social-emotional issues that they face.

Brief History and Background Information

The concept of TEEN TRUTH emerged as a creative response to the Columbine High School tragedy. It began as a film series that sought to give students a voice in discussing challenging social-emotional issues.[6] Founders JC Pohl and Erahm Christopher engaged five high school students to film their experiences throughout an entire school year. This initiative yielded nearly 100 hours of student-shot footage, providing insights into issues like bullying and school violence.

TEEN TRUTH released its first film in 2006 titled "TEEN TRUTH: An Inside Look into Bullying & School Violence"[7] which presented a candid perspective on teen issues. The series later expanded to include films on topics like substance abuse, body image, self-esteem, and family communication.

The TEEN TRUTH films have been viewed globally and more so in schools in the United States,[8] and their success prompted the evolution of the movement, with founders JC Pohl and Erahm Christopher engaging with schools directly through assemblies and motivational speaking engagements.[9][10][11]

Mission and Objectives of TEEN TRUTH

TEEN TRUTH's primary focus lies in building school culture, fostering student resilience, and amplifying student voice. TEEN TRUTH offers various services, including school assemblies, student leadership summits, and professional development workshops.[12][13][14] These initiatives aim to address important social-emotional challenges and to empower students to create a positive impact in their school environment.

To complement TEEN TRUTH, JC Pohl also developed RISING UP, a curriculum designed to teach students to build resilience in the face of adversity.

Erahm Christopher

Erahm Christopher was born in Northern California. After completing a B.A. in Theatre on an acting scholarship at Santa Clara University, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and served as a part-time location supervisor for commercials, television and feature films. After a short time of acting, he accepted a job at CBS where he worked in the Business Affairs department on pilots, specials and series shows such as Survivor and Judging Amy. He was then recruited to manage vFive, a boutique design firm in San Francisco, where he produced print, web, motion, video, and branding projects for clients including Epson, Billabong, and Oxygen. In early 2000, Erahm transitioned his focus to film when he attended the prestigious Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal, Canada where he graduated with honors and a specialization in directing. Upon his graduation, he helped to launch the educational program TEEN TRUTH, a company he co-founded with JC Pohl. In the five years following film school, Erahm produced and directed four award winning TEEN TRUTH films, an operatic film for Bravo!, and co-authored and published the book titled, TEEN TRUTH: Why Youth Have Something to Hide. After seven years of working with youth, Erahm wrote and directed his feature debut, a raw drama inspired by his work.
