Taona Oswald Chipunza (born 12 December 1996), known professionally as Teemak, is a Zimbabwean music promoter, recording artist, and music producer. He gained prominence in January 2020 after signing Zimdancehall artist Enzo Ishall to a management deal reported by NewZimbabwe.com as worth approximately US$100,000, described at the time as "the biggest so far in the music industry".[1]
Early life
Chipunza was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. He relocated to Malaysia at age 13 and completed his secondary and tertiary education there.[2] His stage name combines "Tee" from his first name with "Mak" from Makanyara, his late mother's name.[3]
Career
Early music career
Chipunza released his debut single "Heaven & Hell" in November 2015.[4] The song reached number one on the Zambezi Magic Zim Top 10 chart, where it held the top position for several consecutive weeks.[5] In 2017, he released "24", a collaboration with Zimbabwean artist Roki.[6]
Artist management
In January 2020, Chipunza founded TeeMak Promotions and signed Enzo Ishall to a three-year management contract. The signing ceremony took place at Meikles Hotel in Harare.[1] The agreement included monthly allowances, accommodation, transport, touring support, and recording budgets.[1] In a February 2020 interview with The Herald, Chipunza stated he had spent seven years promoting concerts in Cyprus featuring Zimbabwean artists including Winky D, Killer T, Stunner, and Jah Signal.[7]
The following month, TeeMak Promotions signed R&B artist Takudzwa "Takue" Ncube, whom Chipunza discovered through a public talent search on his Facebook page.[8]
In June 2021, Enzo Ishall confirmed in a Power FM interview that he and Chipunza had mutually terminated the management contract.[9]
Television venture
In February 2020, Chipunza announced One House Zimbabwe, a reality television competition modelled on the Big Brother format. The Herald and The Chronicle reported that the show would offer a US$50,000 grand prize.[10][11] The programme did not proceed to broadcast.
Business activities
Prior to his entertainment career, Chipunza worked in financial sales for a United Kingdom-based green energy investment company.[2] He subsequently founded Maximus Capital, a hedge fund based in Malaysia that focused on forex trading.[2]
In September 2020, Nehanda Radio and Zim Morning Post reported investor complaints regarding funds connected to Maximus Capital. According to Nehanda Radio, affected individuals were located in the United States, Germany, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, and China.[12][13]
In April 2024, Nehanda Radio reported that South African police had issued a warrant for Chipunza's business partner Lionel Simbi and were seeking Chipunza for questioning.[14] In April 2025, Chipunza told The Herald that Maximus Capital had collapsed due to mismanagement and inexperience, and denied being subject to any active warrants or legal proceedings.[15]
Return to music and production work
In April 2025, Chipunza released Mavambo, a six-track extended play, on Zimbabwe's Independence Day (18 April). The project was released under his label Lord Empire Music.[16] Showbiz Zimbabwe and GemNation covered the release.[17][18]
In December 2025, he released "Disemba", a self-produced single featuring Nigerian guitarist Promise the Guitarist. The track blends amapiano rhythms with sungura-inspired guitar.[3]
Chipunza has also worked as a music producer for other artists, including South Africa-based Zimbabwean artist KSG Di Don.[19]
Musical style
Teemak's music blends Afrobeats, amapiano, and sungura guitar. His 2025 EP Mavambo features harmony-rich vocals over guitar-forward productions.[3]
