WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020

Team Nigma is a professional esports Dota 2. The team formed in 2019, after five former Team Liquid players decided to create an organization of their own and rebrand under the leadership of KuroKy. Four members of the team have won the largest Dota 2 event - The International (Dota 2) under the previous banner of Team Liquid. The word "Nigma" has Arabic words and means "Star".[1]

History

2019

Team Nigma is one of the newer Dota 2 teams, despite its members being Dota 2 veterans. After achieving second place at the The International 2019 to OG (esports), on November 25, 2019 the former Team Liquid players Miracle-, w33, MinD_ContRoL, Gh, and KuroKy gathered and created an organization of their own which they later called Team Nigma. Despite being less than a year old, the team reached second-ranked team in Europe and CIS region for the year and fourth in the world.[2]

2020

Team Nigma win WePlay Tug of War Mad Moon trophy and grab the prize of $130,000. In 2020, Team Nigma's captain KuroKy suffered an injury and was unable to play. The coach rmN- of the team had to step in and play as stand in for five months. Since its beginning, the organization has been created with the idea to promote esports talents in the Middle East. They have hosted the Rising Stars tournament for the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region. In 2020 KuroKy shared that the organization's purpose is to expand in other esports, aside from Dota 2.[3]

During 2020, the Team scored numerous wins in Tier 2 tournaments starting in January with WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020.[1]Their second big win for 2020 was over the dominant Team Secret in WePlay! Dota 2 Tug of War:Mad Moon championship, where they grabbed the prize of $130,000 with a victory of 3:2.[4]

Team Nigma also became the OGA Dota PIT S2: Europe/CIS champions, with an intense 3:2 victory over Alliance in the grand finals best of five.[5] Aside from the three tournament victories in 2020, Team Nigma finished second in BEYOND EPIC: Europe/CIS during June in a 0:3 grand final against Team Secret.[6]
