Tatia Chikovani ( born 1991 ) is a Georgian/Norwegian Classical Pianist currently based in Oslo. She specializes in solo performance, chamber music, and accompaniment. Her performances have received positive reviews from critics, notably journalist Anne Gry Eilertsen who described her performance vividly: " as if the ceiling cracked open and the sky came crashing down on the audience."[1]
Biography
Born in Sukhumi to Marina Solomonia and Nugzar Chikovani, two notable Georgian actors, Chikovani and her family fled the War in Abkhasia and resettled in Tbilisi when she was one year old.[1][2][3] Chikovani began performing publicly at age seven with her orchestral debut alongside the Georgian Symphonic Orchestra, where she played Berkovich's Third Concerto and could, by her own words, barely reach the pedals.[1][3][4]
Chikovani regularly performed as a soloist with Revaz Takidze, conductor at Z. Paliashvili State Opera & Theatre. Under the guidance of her teacher Rusudan Begishvili, she graduated with honors from the Central Musical Gymnasium and received a scholarship to the V. Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire.[5][6] She was a student of Professor Lali Sanikidze and studied there for only a year and a half before being accepted to the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) in Oslo, Norway.[3][4]
In 2012, Chikovani moved to Norway to study at NMH and later graduated as "Master of Music Performance (Solo Instrument)".[2][7] In 2016 she married and had a son in 2018 while finishing her masters degree.[1][2] Through mentorship from notable musicians and professors like Liv Glaser and Håvard Gimse, she developed an expressive style noted by audiences and critics.[1][2][8][9][10][11] She continued her education in 2022 with Educational Theory and Practice (PPU) at NMH. Alongside performing and recording, she also teaches young talents.

Chikovani has performed and competed internationally, including in Tenerife, where she won an award at the I Agustín Aponte International Music Competition in 2016, and at festival venues such as the Evmelia International Music Festival in Athens and Volos, Greece. At Sunnmøre Chamber Music Festival, her performances and masterclasses was also received positively by critics, contributing to her reputation for engaging performances.[9][10]
In 2020, Chikovani was a guest pianist at the NMH, where she collaborated with notable composers, conductors, and performers such as Sigmund Thorp, Liv Glaser and Wolfgang Plagge.[1][8] She has participated in album recordings with both Knut Buen[13] and Paal Nilssen-Love in Extra Large Unit, and has several self-published recordings on Youtube and SoundCloud.
Chikovani is also involved in charitable causes, such as concerts for the elderly and infirm in Oslo and Bærum municipalities.[14][15] She performed at concerts to raise funds for a grand piano for the Hareid Municipality's prayer house, where she is credited as the initiator of the fundraising effort and with the first donation.[2]
