Tanvi Mishra (born April 27 2002) is a biologist, writer, and environmentalist from India.[1] She is the founder of the metamodern philosophy to global environmental challenges, and has featured this philosophy throughout her career in climate change policy making and advocacy.
Family and education
Tanvi was raised on the campus of the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand. Her father Dr. Prabhat Kumar, was an entomologist who worked with the FAO's IPM Project[2], and her mother is Dr. Abha Mishra, an agronomist who specialised in the SRI method.[3] She has an older sister.
Her primary schooling was at the Asian Institute of Technology International School[4]. Following this, she studied at the Ekamai International School in Bangkok, a private American Christian school, finishing with a specialisation in medicine.
Her undergraduate degree was done at the University of Debrecen in Hungary, where she studied biology. While taking an elective on renewable energy economics, she was drawn into the field of environmental economics and subsequently specialised in that during her graduate studies. She has cited Geoffrey Heal, Partha Dasgupta, and Michael Liebreich as crucial influences to her work.
Career
Tanvi has written widely— on environmental policies, development, and social phenomena.[5] [6][7]She has also been a delegate at several UN conferences, including Stockholm+50[8], the Vienna Energy Forum, and COP28. She currently serves as as European Union Climate Ambassador for Hungary.[9]
She has spoken out on the unification of ecology and economics, stating that "the ecosystem is not a mathematical equation, and we need to manage our need for resources, with the ecosystem's needs."[10]
She has been a part of political and philosophy programmes on Western civilisation, enlightenment, classical liberalism, and conservatism, which have informed her view on environmental philosophy. She was a fellow with the Common Sense Society.[11]
