Tandin Phurba also known as Tandin Phubz (born December 9, 1999) is a Bhutanese street photographer and a video content creator[1]. He is the founder of the website Humans of Thimphu that was created on October 17, 2020. [2]He is known for his human portraits and street photography of Thimphu and Bhutan.[3]
Early Life
Phubz grew up in Thimphu, Bhutan. The only child in the family. He studied Business, and have a Bachelors Degree in Arts in Dzongkha and English from Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan in Trashigang, Bhutan.[4]
Works
In October 2020, He created a Facebook Page called Humans of Thimphu, inspired by Humans of New York and Humans of Bombay. He then asked help from his college roommate Damchoe Yonten, so that he can start of his page with the first human featuring his college room mate[5]. By 2021, his team expanded to Six members consisting of Photographers, Writers, Editors and Social Media Managers.[6] The page then migrated to a Website by the end of 2020 and shared human interest stores related to human life, journey of life, LGBTQ+, Medical related, Gender based violence issues and many more.[7] Humans of Thimphu then started Humans of Thimphu Newsletter and Humans of Thimphu Podcast led by Tandin Phubz and his team[8]. Humans of Thimphu now has more the 60,000+ followers and more than thousands of daily readers.[9]
During his High school days, he started a photography project called Monochrome Bhutan which was to document the streets of the country in Black & White Photography[10]. Phubz has also been creating Music Videos and is popularly known for his Music Video, Yar La Aee[11] which was Officially Selected for The Lift-Off Sessions-London, Pinewood Studios ( First-Time Filmmaker Sessions), Kalakari Film Fest - India and Popoli e Religioni - Terni Film Festival. His works also include Thrung Thrung Karmo[12], Yumtsho,[13] Zumthruel,[14] Chikhar with United Nations,[15] Tshomen [16]and Shing Ghi Lhamo[17]. [18]
