Tamizh Praba is a Tamil novelist and screenwriter from Chennai. He is best known for his novels, Pettai, Kosalai and the movie Sarpatta Parambarai.
Career
Tamizh Prabha started his career as a Financial Analyst. His writing career began working as a journalist in the weekly Ananda Vikatan and Vikatan Online Magazine. He wrote cover stories on various social issues. His main forte was the political and human-interest stories he wrote as a columnist. Some of his works include reporting on the Thuthukudi firing (2019).[1], the death of an aspiring student, Dr Anita[2], and others. His series ‘Theivathaan aahatheninum[3]' recorded human interest stories. He wrote his first novel Pettai[4] in 2017 published by Kalachuvadu Publications. Tamizh Praba had a two-year stint as an RJ with Rainbow FM.
He has developed a career as a Screenwriter and worked in the movie Sarpatta Parambarai.
Tamizh Praba wrote the screenplay for the movie Blue Star, a sports drama[5] released in January 2024.
As A Novelist
Pettai (2017)[6] published by Kalachuvadu Publications - Setting the context the novel traces the history of the formation of Chinna (small) Thari (loom) Pettai by the East India Company in 1735 to accommodate migrant weavers, which came to be known as Chindadripet now. This metafiction is the tale of Chindadripet – its inhabitants, their way of life, religious convictions, their food, music, culture, socio-political dynamics, societal perceptions, etc[7]. Revolving around two generations of families, the story is told through the protagonist Reuben.
Kosalai (2022)[8] published by Neelam Publications - begins with the life of young Kosalai, a woman affected by dwarfism. Without treating Kosalai with sympathy, the novel brings forth the inner emotions of Kosalai taking the reader into the fictional world of Kosalai’s journey to self-discovery. Centering around Kosalai’s love, loss, hopes, dreams, and resilience, the novel celebrates the life of Kosalai.
The library is such a central place in the novel that it contributed to the revival of almost a century-old dilapidated Goschen Library in Chindadripet in Chennai[9][10]
As A Screenwriter
Tamizh Praba made his debut as a screenwriter (dialogues and screenplay) along with Pa Ranjith for the movie ‘Sarpatta Parambarai[11] [12]’ .
According to the social networking site Letterboxd[13], it secured the 14th position in the "highest rated International films of 2021". The New York Times listed it as one of "the five best International films to stream on digital platforms".
Awards
The Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers' Association awarded the Best Work on Marginalized People award for the novel 'Pettai’ in 2017.
Pettai won the prestigious Writer Sujatha Award in 2017 for the novel Pettai.
