Taguette[1] is a free and open-source tool for textual qualitative data analysis. It allows users to import textual data, highlight and tag/code the data and export the results. The software is promoted by a number of university libraries as a free and simple alternative existing proprietory solutions[2][3][4].

It runs locally, which can be important for sensitive data, or can be installed on a server. Features of the software include:

  • Import PDFs, Word Docs, Text files, HTML, EPUB, MOBI, Open Documents and Rich Text Files
  • Highlight words, sentences, or paragraphs and tag them with the codes you create
  • Work collaboratively with other users when installed on a server
  • Ability to export complete data

Example Published Papers Using Taguette

  • Librarians as Wikimedia Movement Organizers in Spain: An interpretive inquiry exploring activities and motivations[5]
  • An Analysis of Ludo Board Game Play on Smartphones[6]
  • Hand therapists’ perspectives and practices related to musculoskeletal pain: A biopsychosocial lens[7]
