Syed Sanwar Ali, also known as Sanu, was born on February 22, 1956, in the Syed family home, Priti-Villa, located on Jamal Khan, Chittagong. His family was well-respected in the region, with a history of public service and social activism. His father, Syed Rashed Ali, was a prominent figure in the Bengal Civil Service during British rule and later served as the Chief Accountant Officer at East Bengal Railway and as a Board Member.
Mr Ali completed his secondary education at Police Line High School and his higher secondary education at Government City College, Chittagong. He pursued a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Islamic History from Chittagong University. Even as a young student, Ali demonstrated a strong sense of nationalism and joined the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 at the age of 15. He fought bravely in Sector 1 under the leadership of Shaheed President Major Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttom.
Career
Political and Social Activism After the Liberation War, Sanwar Ali resumed his education and continued his family’s legacy of social service. He became deeply involved in various community development projects and organizations. He was a key figure in establishing and supporting several social and cultural institutions in Chittagong.
Contribution to Sports
In 1991, Sanwar Ali took over as President of the historic sports, cultural, and social organization, Shatadal Club, located near Askar Dighi. Under his leadership, the club transformed into a model organization in Chittagong’s sports and cultural arenas. He spearheaded significant improvements, including the reconstruction of the club building and the enhancement of its sports facilities. His efforts led the club to achieve notable successes in football and cricket, advancing through various divisions and leagues.
