Sydney Marta Koszo is a Hungarian-American professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Budapest Honvéd FC in Hungary’s top women’s league, the Női NB I, and represents the Hungary U19 women’s national team.[1] She previously played for St. Mihály FC, where she made over 70 appearances in Hungary’s top division.[2]
Early life and youth career
Koszo was born in Marco Island, Florida and raised in a sports-focused household with Hungarian roots.[3][dead link] She began playing soccer at age three and developed quickly, training and competing in local leagues before being accepted into the elite IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where she trained from 2018 to 2021.[4]
After her time at IMG, she continued developing with Florida United, a top-tier club based in Fort Lauderdale. Her dual American-Hungarian citizenship, granted through her father, later opened the door to international opportunities.[5]
Club career
Koszo turned professional in 2023, signing with Hungary’s St. Mihály FC at age 16. Over two seasons, she made 72 appearances and scored 13 goals.[2] In 2025, she joined Budapest Honvéd FC, one of Hungary’s most established football clubs, and continues to compete in the Női NB I.[6]
International career
Eligible to represent both the United States and Hungary, Koszo accepted an invitation from the Hungarian Football Federation in 2022. She first played for the Hungary U17 national team before advancing to the U19s the following year. She has competed in multiple UEFA competitions, including the 2025 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship qualification tournament.[1]
Playing style
Koszo is a central or defensive midfielder known for her composure under pressure, tactical awareness, and accurate passing. Her experience in both American and European systems has shaped her into a versatile and intelligent player.[7]
