Susan (Susie) Meister (born August 10, 1979) is a podcaster, writer, and reality TV personality. A veteran of multiple MTV programs, she currently hosts The Brain Candy Podcast with fellow reality alum, Sarah Rice.

Early life and career

Meister was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and in 1998, applied to be a cast member of MTV's Road Rules: Down Under at the age of 18, shortly after her high school graduation.[1]

She would go on to compete in 6 more reality TV shows, including The Gauntlet 2, The Ruins, Extreme Challenge, and The Inferno 3. She is the champion of The Gauntlet 2 and The Ruins and a finalist on both the Extreme Challenge and The Inferno 3. Her winnings reportedly totaled $100,173.00.

Meister has repeatedly expressed mixed feelings about her time on reality television, appreciating the experience, but condemning the toxicity, harassment, and exploitation that she and other female participants were forced to endure.[2]

Following her career on reality TV, she earned a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Pittsburgh in 2014, using her competition prize money to finance her education.[3]

Meister founded the WAVE Podcast Network in 2016, which specializes in providing a platform for women in media. She has been published in Jezebel, the Huffington Post, Vox, and Salon. In 2011, she began The Brain Candy Podcast with co-host Sarah Rice, and subsequently launched its companion podcast, Things We Got Wrong, in September 2022.

Personal Life

Meister married Adam Butler in August of 2010. The pair met while filming MTV's Real World Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins in Thailand in 2009, and have one son together.[4]
