Sunit Morarjee is an Indian actor and former assistant film director. He is best known for his roles in Hindi cinema, notably portraying Inspector Sharad Kute in the action films Baaghi 2 (2018) and Baaghi 3 (2020).[1][2] Morarjee also appeared in the comedy franchise Housefull, with a cameo in Housefull 3 (2016) and a supporting role in Housefull 4 (2019).[2] Before transitioning to acting, he worked behind the camera as an assistant director on films such as Khiladi 786 (2012) and Special 26 (2013).[1]

Early Life and Education

Sunit Morarjee was raised in Juhu, Mumbai, in a family with a prominent industrial and nationalist legacy. He is the great-grandson of shipping magnate Narottam Morarjee, grandson of industrialist Shanti Kumar Morarjee, and businesswoman Sumati Morarjee, all of whom played important roles in India’s shipping industry and independence movement (see Family legacy below).[3][4][5]

Morarjee pursued formal training in filmmaking and acting abroad, studying at the New York Film Academy and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City.[1] He also trained under Indian acting coach Atul Mongia and participated in workshops conducted by Mukesh Chhabra, further developing his craft before entering Hindi cinema.[6]

Career

Assistant director (2012–2013)

Morarjee began his career in Bollywood as an assistant director, working on large-scale commercial productions. His early credits include assisting director Ashish R. Mohan on Khiladi 786 (2012), a comedy-action film featuring Akshay Kumar, and later working under Neeraj Pandey on the critically acclaimed Special 26 (2013).[1]

During this period, Morarjee observed in detail how established actors were directed and how large productions were mounted. He has described his time with Pandey as “better than training in a film institute”, noting that he learned how to stage performances and how to balance realism with mainstream entertainment.[1] These experiences, combined with his formal acting training in New York, gave him a unique foundation when he transitioned to acting.

Acting career (2016–present)

Morarjee’s acting career began with small roles, including a cameo appearance in the hit ensemble comedy Housefull 3 (2016).[2] His breakthrough came with Baaghi 2 (2018), a major box office success that grossed over ₹160 crore worldwide. In the film he portrayed Inspector Sharad Kute, a corrupt police officer who interacts with Tiger Shroff’s character. Though a supporting role, Morarjee’s screen presence led to the filmmakers inviting him back for Baaghi 3 (2020).[1]

In Baaghi 3, his character Sharad Kute was expanded into a recurring comic relief role, playing opposite Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor, and Riteish Deshmukh. The film crossed ₹130 crore at the box office despite its release coincidingwith the COVID-19 pandemic. Morarjee’s performance combined humor with the action-heavy storyline, adding levity to the franchise.[1][2]

He also appeared in Housefull 4 (2019), playing the brother of Rana Daggubati’s antagonist character in the reincarnation-themed comedy. The film was one of the highest-grossing comedies of its year, earning over ₹280 crore worldwide.[2] His participation in the Housefull and Baaghi franchises has positioned him within the mainstream “masala” genre of Hindi cinema, known for its blend of action, comedy, and melodrama.

Morarjee’s acting style is described as prep-intensive and versatile. He trained under Atul Mongia, a coach known for mentoring actors such as Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt, to bring psychological depth to his performances.[6] Co-stars have also spoken positively of his approach; Shraddha Kapoor noted that working with Morarjee in Baaghi 3 was special as they had known each other from before their film careers.[6]

As of 2025, Morarjee is set to reprise his role in Baaghi 4, scheduled for release on 5 September 2025. Beyond the franchise, he continues to audition for both mainstream and character roles, aiming to expand his presence in Bollywood. Industry observers often describe him as an underdog talent: a well-trained, dedicated actor whose career is steadily building through supporting roles in high-profile projects.

Reality Television

Morarjee was also a contestant on the stunt-based reality series Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (India’s version of Fear Factor), where he performed strongly and reached the Top 5 finalists of his season. He excelled in multiple stunt challenges and was frequently among the top performers in episodes.

the struggle for independence.

The company’s SS Loyalty was the first Indian ship to sail internationally under the Indian flag, symbolizing self-reliance during the colonial era.[3]

He also sent steamers to Karachi to repatriate Hindu refugees during the Partition of India in 1947.[4]
  • Sumati Morarjee (1909–1998), his grandmother, was the first woman to head the Indian National Steamship Owners Association. Known as the “first lady of Indian shipping, ” she expanded Scindia Steam Navigation into India’s largest shipping company and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1971 for her contributions to industry and public service.[5]

This lineage of patriotism, industrial leadership, and social contribution has influenced Morarjee’s public image, connecting his career in cinema with a broader legacy of nation-building.
