Sujit Das is an Indian painter born in Nagaon district of Assam, India.[1][2]

Birth and Education

Sujit Das was born on 11 December 1980 in Nagaon district of Assam, India. He is the son of Kamakhya Chandra Das and Khyama Das. He received his primary schooling from Nagaon Bengali Primary Boys School. He completed his high school education from Nagaon Bengali Higher Secondary School and attended GNDG College of Commerce, Nagaon. He also holds a Diploma in Electronic Engineering and a Bachelor of Mass Communication from Assam Institute of Electronics. He received his Diploma in Fine Arts from Ruprang School of Drawing and Painting, Nagaon under the guidance of eminent artist Pranab Barua.[3]

Career

In 2010, he made a one-inch Durga idol on a piece of chalk with the aim of entering the Guinness Book of World Records.[4]The idol has been recognized by 10 national and international books of records as the 'smallest Durga idol in the world'. On June 19, 2012, Sujit entered the Guinness Book of World Records for successfully painting portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Bishnu Prasad Rava on canvas with the world's largest paint brush, 28 feet long, 4.4 feet wide and weighing 22kg.[5][6][7][8]

Awards

He received the CCRT fellowship award[9] 2014-15 to outstanding persons in the fields of culture under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India for his book films in Assam.[10]
