Egyptian higher education is provided by the Suez Canal University, which is located in Suez and serves the surrounding area. The three governorates that make up the Suez Canal Region are each home to one of its faculties (Port Said, Ismailia & Suez). 1974 was the year when it began operations. It is well-known for the unconventional research that it does. There are a total of 21,325 students enrolled there, spread among 48 faculties (16 of which are located in Ismailia, 13 in Port Said, 10 in Suez, and 9 in Arish).

The university is home to over 53 specialised divisions dedicated to research, teaching, and the improvement of local communities.

The mission of the Center for Open Education is to make available the possibility of further education to anyone who already possesses a high school diploma or an equivalent technical diploma and has the aspiration to raise/improve their educational and cultural level as well as obtain a bachelor's degree from one of the participating universities in the Center for Open Education's programme. In addition to this, the centre intends to award a variety of specialities to bachelor's degree holders who are interested in obtaining specialist degrees in the subject areas that are being taught by the centre.
