Jovan Subota Mladenović (Serbian Cyrillic: Субота Младеновић; 1793-1863) was a Serbian teacher based in Pest [1]and editor of the Letopis (Chronicle) of Matica Srpska (1856-1857)[2]. He is credited for saving Matica Srpska during the most difficult period of its history[3]

During the 1848 Hungarian Revolution and after Matica Srpska was undergoing its most difficult time of financial survival since 1824. Aside from a few publications and granting four awards this period of the history of the Matica is uneventful. The publication of Letopis (magazine) remained its most important contribution. For example, as evidence of the instability of this period, Letopis had five editors, Jovan Subotić, Jakov Ignjatović, Jovan Đorđević, Antonije Hadžić and Subota Mladenović in its 24-year history.[4]
