Subhash Dhankar, born (6th October 1970) is an Indian actor known for his work predominantly in Hindi cinema as well as few Tamil & Punjabi films. Dhankar made his Hindi film debut with Zulmi (1999). He also acted in Hindi films, Be-lagaam (2001), Not A Love Story (2011) and Hindi web series Inspector Avinash (2023).
Recently he acted as a main villain in Hindi-language action crime thriller web series Inspector Avinash (2023), written and directed by Neeraj Pathak which stars Randeep Hooda, Urvashi Rautela, Amit Sial, Shalin Bhanot, Rahul Mittra, Ayeesha S. Aiman, Bidita Bag, & others.
He also acted in Tamil film Vanchinathan (2001) which stars Vijaykanth, Ramya Krishnan & Prakash Raj. He played main villain in Punjabi film Mera Ghar Kitthe Hai (1997) with Upasana Singh, Shivani Gosain & Somdutt.
In addition to his film career, Subhash Dhankar has acted in numerous stage plays and had made his stage debut with a play Khamosh! Adalat jaari hai in 1990, which is an Hindi adaption of Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe (1979) written by famous playwriter Vijay Tendulkar & Directed by Shekhar Vaishnavi who is alumni of National School Of Drama (NSD). Dhankar has been associated with theatre since the beginning of his acting career. He was an active member of Jan Natya Manch in 90s. He also worked with well known stage director Habib Tanveer in the play Moteram Ka Satyagrah written by Munshi Premchand.
Early life and background
Dhankar was born on 6th October 1970, in Rohtak, Haryana to Col. Richhpal Singh Dhankar a war veteran & Rambheji Dhankar in a Hindu family. His father served in Indian Army and was in 1962 India China War, 1965 India China War and 1971 India Pakistan War, Later he joined State Bank Of India and retired from SBI, and his mother was a housemaker.[2][3][1][4] He spent most of his childhood in Delhi. His younger brother Sunil Dhankar runs a restaurant & Club “ Rude Lounge & Bar in Hatch-end London and is a British Citizen. His younger brother Rajkumar Dhankar died in car crash and youngest brother Rahul Dhankar is a businessman. And his daughter is studying in a medical college to become a doctor.
He was educated at Deshbandhu College, Kalkaji,New Delhi in Bachelor of Arts in History (Hons) & Masters Of Arts In History from Ramjas College. Dhankar later developed an interest in theatre and participated in school & college productions. He said he enjoyed appearing on stage, but his family wanted him to become an IAS officer, However he chose to become an actor.
He subsequently started modelling and working in theatre in Delhi.[13] His first modeling assignment was for Datapro Computer and later he modeled for Charaghdin Shirt, Close up commercial, Times Of India also ramp shows in Delhi and Mumbai with renowned fashion labels.
In 1991, Mr. Subhash Dhankar started business & founded an ad agency that became Elements Advertising & Marketing. He built his company into one of the reputed advertising agency in Delhi in its early 90s.
Film career
2001–2011: début and struggle
During his struggling time he worked in theatre and modeled for famous brands & commercials to support himself financially.[17] He also attended and assisted an imagination and improvisation workshop conducted by acting schools & theater with Nadira Babbar’s theatre group Ekjut.
Finally after so many years of struggle, in 2008, he founded few companies by the name of Dhankar Infrastructure, Dhankar Financial Services, Elements Interior Studio, United Motion Pictures, Elements InfoTech & others and became a renowned & successful businessman in Mumbai.[1]
In 2011, he received a call from two unknown persons asking to arrange a location for a shooting on a real incident of Neeraj Grover Murder Case. There he met Ramgopal Varma, who casted him for a role of an Inspector in the movie Not A Love Story (2011).
2021-2023–Breakthrough
The year 2021 marked a new turning point when he received a call from a casting director for a web series, after meeting he was signed to play a role of main villain in one episode. The web-series was Inspector Avinash (2023) staring Randeep Hooda, Urvashi Rautela, Mahesh Manjrekar, Govind Namdev, Amit Sial, Abhimanyu Singh, & Adhyayan Suman, Directed by Neeraj Pathak[2].
