Stu Oakley is an author, writer and award-winning podcaster. His debut book, The Queer Parent[1], is the world’s first major book about LGBTQ+ parenting. Co-written with Lotte Jeffs and published by Pan Macmillan The Queer Parent received acclaim[2] from Will Young, Elizabeth Day, Suzi Ruffell and others.

From 2020 – 2022, Stu hosted the award-winning podcast Some Families with Lotte Jeffs which was the first ever podcast dedicated to LGBTQ+ families. It won a gold award at the 2021 British Podcast Awards with the judges saying “what impresses most about the presenters is just how eloquent they are. A much needed podcast that covers important topics”.[3] The podcast also received critical acclaim with Elle saying “A truly brilliant parenting podcast for everyone. I laughed, cried and was thoroughly inspired by these LGBTQ+ parents sharing their incredible stories with Lotte and Stu. A must listen for all.” The Times said Some Families was “warm, funny and insightful”.[4]

Stu and Lotte’s new podcast From Gay to Ze launched in Feb 2023 and is a wider focused podcast by queer parents for queer parents that celebrates LGBTQ+ pop culture whilst trying to survive (and thrive) the challenges of family life.

Stu has written a number of opinion pieces for The Guardian, The Times, Independent, Evening Standard, Grazia, ELLE and Attitude on different aspects of queer parenting.

In addition to his writing and podcasting Stu has worked on some of the biggest film franchises of all time as a film publicist[5], including Star Wars, Avengers, Frozen, Barbie and Jurassic World.
