Stevan Georgijević (Serbian Cyrillic: Стеван Георгијевић; Mali Radinci, Austria-Hungary, 28 July 1863 - Rijeka, State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, 30 November 1924) was a merchant, landowner and philanthropist. He was a member of Beogradske Trgovačke Omladine (Belgrade Merchant Youth).

Biography

He learned the shoemaking trade in Ruma[1]. He worked as an assistant in Zemun, Belgrade, Vukovar, Osijek, Pest, Trieste and Vienna before mastering the craft and opening the chain of stores.

From 1887, he settled in Rijeka, where, thanks to the material help of his uncle Jovan Shorak Čeda, he opened an independent shop. As a hard worker, he soon managed to open other shops. His chain were the first shoe stores in Rijeka. He was arrested and persecuted by the Austrian authorities for his many contributions to Serbian patriotic and cultural associations in Austria-Hungary and in the Kingdom of Serbia.

In his Will and testament, he left all his property, three houses in Rijeka worth about 180,000 crown (currency) to the Serbian company Privrednik, where he was a member of the Patronage of Businessmen's Benefactors (Patronat Privrednikovih dobrotvora), an arm of Privrednik (1897—1946)[2]located in Zagreb and later moved to Belgrade.
