Richielde de Mathilde Callebaut (13 October 1923 – 29 June 2017), better known by the stage name Sri Murniati, was an Indonesian-born Dutch actress and singer who was active in the 1950s. She was the part of Classical Indonesian cinema.

Life and career

Sri Murniati was born Richielde de Mathilde Callebaut on 13 October 1923 in Malang, Dutch East Indies, to Petrus Fransiskus and Vientje Callebaut. She was of Belgian, Dutch, and Manado descent. She was the elder sister of actress Mimi Mariani and editor Emile Callebaut as well the aunt of actress Doris Callebaut.[1]

Murniati started her career by joined Bintang Soerabaja troupe as a singer with her sister, Mimi, in 1942, and made her film debut in Remong Batik (1950), where she portrayed Sri Wahyuni, a doctor.[2] She appeared in Kembang Katjang in the same year where she portrayed the wife of Rd Mangundiputro.[3] Murniati appeared in two films in 1951; Siti Aminah and Kusuma Hati.[4] In 1954, she was referred by Film Varia magazine as the Kasma Booty of Indonesia.[5] She made her last film appearance by starring in Djudi (1955).

She was married to Henry L. Duarte, a theatre actor and former colleague of Njoo Cheong Seng in Fifi Young's pagoda, with whom she had four children.[6] Her husband later became a film director for Selendang Delima (1941) and established Warna Sari troupe.[6] In 1962, they moved to Netherlands and changing their citizenship.

Death

Murniati died at her residence in Netherlands, on 29 June 2017, at the age of 93, and was announced by her son, Ronald.[7]
