Dr. Sreekumar Kurungot is a principal scientist at the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, focusing on fuel cells, electrochemistry and supercapacitors. He obtained his PhD from Cochin University of Science and Technology and worked at the University of Tokyo, Korea Institute of Science and Technology and Toyota prior to joining NCL.[1] He was most recently included in the Stanford University list of top 2% of scientists globally, 2023.[1] He also works as an associate editor for the RSC Advances journal in chemistry.

Research Areas

The research focuses on the synthesis of materials for electrochemical power sources such as membrane fuel cells, supercapacitors and batteries. The lab mainly focuses on electrode and cell fabrications for battery manufacturing and multifunctional nanostructured materials.

Awards and Recognition

Dr. Kurungot received the MSRI Medal from the Materials Research Society of India, in 2019. He works for the editorial advisory board for the American Chemical Society Applied Materials and Interfaces journal and as an associate editor for the RSC Advances journal in chemistry. Dr. Kurungot was awarded the NCL-RS Scientist of the Year award in 2011. He is the receipt of the NEDO Fellowship, 2001 and the Japan Science and Technology Agency Postdoctoral Fellowship, 2003, both awarded by the Government of Japan.
