Springfield is the third-largest city in Missouri and the county headquarters of Greene County. It is also the state capital. According to the 2010 census, the city has a total population of 159,498 people. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city's population was 167,882 as of 2019. It is the major city of the Springfield metropolitan area, which has a population of 462,369 people and comprises the counties of Christian, Dallas, Greene, Polk, and Webster. Springfield is the state capital of Illinois and the state capital of Missouri.

Springfield is known as the "Queen City of the Ozarks," as well as "The 417," which refers to the city's area code (417 in this case). It is sometimes referred to as the "Birthplace of Route 66" because of its historical significance. Missouri State University, Drury University, and Evangel University are among the institutions that call this city home.
