South African Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE) is a non-governmental organization[1]. It is situated in Johannesburg. However, it is involved in various initiatives not only in Johannesburg but also across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. Saide's primary objective is to play a role in shaping innovative models for open and distance education that align with and advance the values, principles, Additionally, Saide has a specific focus on the effective utilization of technology in education. It has established an initiative called OER Africa, based in Kenya, with the aim of fostering the development, creation, and dissemination of open educational resources (OER) across the African continent.[2]
SAIDE was established in September 1992 by a distinguished group of educators. It endeavours to utilize creative educational approaches to revolutionize education systems.[1] It has built and maintained a good image for the quality and efficacy of its work as well as its project management skills.[3] SAIDE is managed by a Board of Trustees[4]
African storybook initiative, launched in 2014 is also an initiative of SAIDE[5][6][7][8]. The African storybook addresses the scarcity of early reading materials in local languages in sub-Saharan Africa by utilizing a digital open-license publishing approach[9].
Mission
The mission of the organization is “Enabling successful open learning for all.”[5]

- assisting initiatives in technology use, management, learner support, and good and creative course design, especially for large-scale supply;
- Conducting research, creating materials, and disseminating information, increase your knowledge of effective and cutting-edge opening learning techniques.
Their goal is to create a society where everyone values and has access to high-quality, lifelong education and training that addresses local and national objectives within the framework of a global information economy.[1]
