Simon James Latimer was born in Dunedin, New Zealand on November 4 1981. He currently lives in Auckland, New Zealand.

Simon represented New Zealand in springboard and platform diving between 1995 and 2002, attending two FINA World Junior Diving Championships Events as a junior competitor. Simon also represented New Zealand as a senior competitor including at FINA Grand Prix Events. Simon retired from diving in 2002 due to ongoing back injuries.[1]

In 2008 Simon returned to international diving as a FINA judge. He went on to judge at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.[2] He was also a judge at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010 and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

In 2017, Simon was appointed to FINA's Technical Diving Committee.[3] As part of this Committee he was a referee at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.[2] Simon is a specialist in the psychology of judging diving and has given several international presentations on this topic, including a webinar on FINA's Learning Platform.[4]

Simon is a Life Member of Diving New Zealand and the Head Selector of the New Zealand Diving Team.[5]

Simon is also a high diving judge on the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series circuit.[6]

Simon has a First Class Honours Degree in Social Geography from the University of Otago. The topic of his thesis was risk assessment in relation to nuclear power.[7]
