Simon Crowther is a London-based civil engineer and chartered water & environmental manager.[1][2] He is the founder of the FPS Group.[3][4][5][6] Crowther has been recognized by Forbes Magazine in their top ‘30 Under 30’ Europe list for his work in the industry.[7][8][9]
Early life and education
Crowther was inspired to help others as a result of the 2007 flooding,[10][11][12] and he began work that earned him a coveted Arkwright Engineering Scholarship and the opportunity to represent the United Kingdom at the Stockholm World Water Week.[13] He dined with Sweden's King and Queen and got a diploma from Crown Princess Victoria. He also holds a Civil Engineering[14] degree which he acquired from the University of Nottingham.[15][16][17]
Career
Crowther's drive for lowering flood risk[18][19] derives from his family's unfortunate experience in 2007 when their home was swamped.[20][21][22] While still at university, he launched his first firm, Flood Protection Solutions Ltd, at the age of 18.[23][24][25] Under his guidance, the company grew to a two-million-pound turnover in five years, with clients ranging from homes to heavy industry,[26] including the NHS,[27] Environment Agency,[28][29][30] and Thames Water.[31][32][33]
Crowther invested in adapting new technology linked with the sector and also developed an e-commerce site[34] in 2017,[35][36] making the best equipment readily available to all, in order to suit the needs of the demanding flood risk industry.[37] Crowther founded 'FPS Environmental Ltd' in 2021, which is known for its extensive work in raising awareness of flood risk and taking precautions for the same.[38][39]
Crowther is known for his involvement in the upliftment of the LGBTQ+ community.[40][41] He was included in Attitude Magazine’s 101 List as an LGBTQ+ trailblazer[42]changing the World.[43] He's also featured in the media, most notably in a Channel 4 series called A Summer of Wild Weather,[44][45] which examines the possible consequences of climate change on the United Kingdom.[46][47][48]
