Simmons University, formerly known as Simmons College, is a non-public institution of higher education located in Boston, Massachusetts. It was in 1899 that clothes producer John Simmons first launched the company. In 2018, it underwent a structural overhaul and transitioned from a college to a university status. Its undergraduate curriculum is geared specifically at women, but its graduate programmes are open to both men and women.

The New England Commission of Higher Education has granted Simmons University with accreditation. It is regarded to be a somewhat challenging process to get admission; as of the year 2020, 83 percent of students who applied to undergraduate programmes were granted admission.

One site in the Fenway-Kenmore district has a total of 12 acres (4.9 hectares) and is comprised of five academic buildings, while the second campus is comprised of nine residential buildings designed in the Georgian style. The institution is separated into two campuses.

The institution has roughly 1,736 students enrolled in the undergraduate programme and 4,527 students enrolled in the graduate programme. Its athletics teams, which go by the name Sharks while competing in NCAA Division II, are known as the Sharks.

John Simmons, a rich clothes maker in Boston, left a gift to establish Simmons in 1899. John Simmons was the company's namesake. Simmons established the institution on the premise that women should be able to lead independent lives. She did this by providing undergraduate women with a liberal arts education that they could combine with professional job experience. Sarah Louise Arnold was the first person to hold the position of dean at this institution. In addition, she was the national president of the Girl Scouts.

The Fenway-Kenmore district in Boston, Massachusetts is home to both of Simmons University's campuses. Both campuses are part of Simmons University. Five academic buildings are located on a single site, which is collectively referred to as the Academic Campus. On the other campus, which is referred to as the Residential Campus, there are nine different residence halls for first-year students to live in. On the Boston Women's Heritage Trail, you'll find a marker indicating the location of the first Simmons College Graduate School of Social Work building.
