Sigfrid von Shrink is a fictional character from the Heechee saga, a science fiction series written by Frederik Pohl. The series begins with the novel Gateway.[1]. Sigfrid is an artificial intelligence (AI) designed to perform the role of a psychoanalyst[2].
Despite being a non-human entity, Sigfrid von Shrink is used by Pohl to explore complex themes of consciousness, ethics, and the human psyche. The AI character is noted for its advanced understanding of human psychology and its learning capabilities.[3]
