History

Sift, originally known as Speeny Bowl Wagon, was formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1993 and relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina, in 2007. The founding members, Curt Meinhold, Kimon Greenland, and Ron Gittens, recorded their initial songs at Powerhouse Studio with drummer Jesse Vena. Their debut EP, "True," was released in 1997, followed by "If there was a God..." in 2000. Throughout their career, Sift produced notable works such as "Yellow," "Rains for Tyler," and "The Desperate Hope."

Over time, the band experienced multiple lineup changes, introducing members like Justin Burmeister, Deep Chinappa, Rob Papagno, Godjivah, Sue Mikes, and Rebecca Tognacci, which influenced their musical evolution, encompassing elements of 70s Prog, 80s Metal and Darkwave, 90s Alternative, and Post Rock.

In 2012, core members Justin Burmeister and Curt Meinhold reunited in North Carolina, leading to the production of new material and the release of the album "We Fear Wolves" in 2017. Tragically, Justin Burmeister passed away from cancer in 2020 while working on a new album.

In 2023, Sift culminated their musical journey with the release of their final album, "Denouement." To commemorate their 30-year career, the band also released a documentary recounting their history and legacy, produced by North Carolina filmmaker Tumaini Johnson.
