Sidney M. Finger

Sidney Michael Finger (May 24 1837 – December 26, 1896) was a businessman, state legislator, and public official in North Carolina.[1] He served in the North Carolina Senate and as North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1885 to 1893.

He studied at Catawba College and Bowdoin College. He became a major during his service in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War.[1] In the state senate he served with African Americans in the 1876-1877 session.[2] He authored Civil Government in North Carolina and the United States: A School Manual and History.

He supported industrial education.[3] He lived in Newton, North Carolina.[1]
