Siddhanth Lohia (born 19 October 2005) is an Indian Chess Player with an International FIDE Rating. He is known for his achievements in chess and his contributions to the community through his AI Chess Project.[1] His current is 1926 and the peak rating is 1972.[2][3] He is a Student at South Mumbai Chess Academy, trained by Balaji Guttula.

Early life and education

Siddhanth Lohia was born on 19th October 2009 in Mumbai, Maharashtra India to to Sheetal and Sushir Lohia. He began learning chess at the age of 5 when his parents arranged for a chess coach to teach him. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the game and won the Maharashtra State Chess Championship in the Under-7 age category within a year. He attended Dhirubhai Ambani International School [4]until May 2022, and later joined Sevenoaks School in the United Kingdom in September 2022. He has a younger sister, Suhaani Lohia, who is also a chess player.

Chess career

Siddhanth has represented India in chess tournaments across 15 countries since the age of 5. He has earned several medals in Asian and World events. Some of his notable achievements include:

  • 3rd in the Under 9 World Schools Rapid Chess Championship in Greece (2014)[5]
  • 3rd in the Under 11 Asian Schools Blitz Chess Championship in Iran (2016)
  • 2nd in the Under 7 Asian Schools Rapid Chess Championship in Delhi (2012)[6]
  • 4th in the Under 9 World Schools Blitz Chess Championship in Greece (2014)[7]
  • 8th in the Under 8 World Youth Chess Championship in Al Ain (2013)[8]
  • 2nd as a part of the U-10 Indian Team in the ASEAN Chess Championship in Singapore (2015)
  • 1st in the U-2000 and Under 16 Category in the Zurich Easter Chess Open (2019)
  • 2nd in ISSO Chess National Games U-17 in Jaipur (2019)[4]
  • 1st in Mumbai Schools Chess U-16 (2019)

Impact and contributions

Siddhanth Lohia's AI Chess Project is an initiative aimed at helping visually impaired individuals to play chess on digital platforms. The project uses Neural Networks, a subset of artificial intelligence, to recognize chess pieces on a screen. The software converts these positions into text, which can then be read by screen readers.The software is available for free download on Siddhanth's website, chessforall.in, ensuring accessibility and widespread usability among the visually impaired community. The project has been recognized by various platforms including ChessBase India and Sevenoaks School.[1]
