Siamak Mardaneh (Persian: سیامک مردانه, born 9 September 1985) was born in Bandar-e Mahshahr, Khuzestan. He is an Iranian assistant director, production planner, actor, and film and television director. His name became widely talked about in late 2025 because of directing the legal crime drama series Convicted that year. Before this, his professional career was not well known, but after the series was produced, a wave of user reactions on social media led to his behind the scenes work on several Iranian film and television productions becoming recognized.
Early life and education
Mardaneh was born into a middle class family, his father was an officer in the Iranian Navy and his mother was a nurse. During the Iran & Iraq War, his family moved from Abadan to Shahrak Jarahi (Shahid Chamran ). After the death of his father in 1995, his family returned to Bandar-e Mahshahr. During his teenage years, Mardaneh began working in local theatre in Mahshahr, while at the same time continuing his university education in Building Construction at Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz and later in Civil Engineering at Azad University.
Career
Siamak Mardaneh entered the field of cinema and television in the late 1990s. With a brief look through social media pages, it can easily be seen that his brother, Ali Mardaneh, an actor and assistant director, as well as his half-uncle Hamid Farrokhnezhad, also played a significant role in his entry into Iranian cinema. His first professional experience was appearing in the television series Aghoosh-haye Khali, directed by Vahid Nikkhah Azad, which was broadcast on Channel Three. After that, he expanded his behind-the-scenes activities and gradually began working in assistant directing and backstage management. He also appeared in various television and film projects, including the television series Armaando, as both an actor and an assistant director. The television series Mahkoum was his first experience as a director after many years of working as an assistant director. In an interview, Mardaneh accepted responsibility for a controversial makeup error[1] involving Pejman Jamshidi in this series. The series received wide media attention, with both praise and criticism published in major Iranian outlets including [2], IRNA, Asriran, and Shargh Daily. The series Mahkoum is still being broadcast on home streaming platforms, including Filimo and Narengi.
Directing
National newspapers and cultural critics in Iran[3][4] made numerous comments about the series Mahkoum. According to an interview published by On-News, Mardaneh stated clearly that at first, when he was offered the responsibility of directing Mahkoum, he was surprised and did not believe it himself. He explained that the project was a demanding production and, as his first fully independent directing experience, came with significant pressure and expectations. He said that even before the project began, he had considered the possibility that many professional actors might not be convinced to stand in front of his camera.[5][6]
