Si Yabosokanen (in Chinese charaters: 希‧雅布書卡嫩; Chinese name: Chang Shu-lan 張淑蘭), born in Dongqing Village, Orchid Island, is a local Tao people. She is a documentary director known for And Deliver Us from Evil and Si Yabosokanen. She is the founder of the Yabosokanen Home Care Association and the initiator of the Hope Healing Garden Project (希望療園計畫).[1]

Career life

Her Tao name, Si Yabosokanen, means "a person with no food to eat." It was named after the elderly people she had taken care of in the past, symbolizing a blessing for them to have sufficient meals.[2] In the summer of 1997, the Orchid Island Health Center promoted home care, and she was sent to Taitung St. Mary's Hospital for training. After completing her training and returning to her hometown of Orchid Island, she dedicated herself to home care work.[1][3]

During her time as a nurse, she noticed the contradictions between traditional culture and modern medical care. She picked up a camera to document her work, resulting in the completion of the documentary And Deliver Us from Evil.[4] Through this film, Si Yabosokanen broke the younger generation's fears of aging and illness and dispelled the notion that evil spirits bring misfortune.[5] Many young people on Orchid Island were inspired and joined volunteer efforts. In 2017, she established the first home care institution on Orchid Island, the Yabosokanen Home Care Association. In 2019, for her warm care-giving spirit, she was awarded the 8th Nightingale Award for Individual Special Contribution.[1]
