Shuvam Banerjee is the President of All India Students Federation. [1] He is also a National Council member of Communist Party of India (CPI).[2] [3] Presently he is the Editor in Chief of the international political magazine "The International".[4]. He's contesting 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from Sonarpur Dakshin (Vidhan Sabha constituency) as Sanyukta Morcha candidate.[5]

Education and research

He has completed his M.Tech degree from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (Formerly known as WBUT) and presently pursuing his PhD as a research scholar from University of Calcutta. [6] His works on Genetic Variants of Melanocortin 1 Receptor (MC1R) Gene and Skin Cancer Risk Prediction and An Integrated Analysis to Predict Functionally Altered Genetic Variants in FTO with Potential Cancer Risk were published in International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR) in the year of 2017 and 2019 respectively. He has also worked in the article ‘The impact of human waste hair reprocessing occupation on environmental degradation—A case study from rural West Bengal’, India that is published in Environmental Geochemistry and Health in 2020.

His other works include Decoding the lethal effect of SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus) strains from global perspective: molecular pathogenesis and evolutionary divergence, and Identification of best suitable repurposed drugs considering mutational spectra at RdRp (nsp12), 3CLpro (nsp 5) and PLpro (nsp 3) of SARS-CoV-2 in Indian population etc. The Journal of Medical Virology has published his research article on Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) namely Mutational spectra of SARS‐CoV‐2 orf1ab polyprotein and signature mutations in the United States of America in August, 2020.

Political career

He is the first Bengali to be elected the National President of All India Students Federation (AISF) in the history of 85 years of the organization. He is presently a National Council member of Communist Party of India (CPI)[7] and was a star campaigner of CPI in the 2019 Parliament Election. [8]

He was elected the President from the 29th National Conference of All India Students Federation held in September, 2018 at Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.[9]. He has organized several protest marches along with the former JNUSU President and CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar and other leaders of student bodies and organizations. His protests were against the privatization policies leading to social exclusion and denial of rights and he has taken leading roles in the protests against the exploitative measures of the government.[10]
