Overview
SS PU College offers education at the secondary and high secondary levels (grades 9 to 12). It operates as a private aided organization and provides instruction in the Kannada language. The institution follows a co-educational system, welcoming both male and female students.[citation needed] SSPUC offers Four courses.
Administration
The college is currently led by Principal/Head Professor Mr. Sangamesh Emme. Under their guidance, the institution has continued to uphold its reputation for providing quality education to students in the region.
Sports and physical education
One significant challenge faced by pre-university colleges in Karnataka, including Shri Shanteshwar Pre-University College, is the limited availability of physical education teachers. Out of the 5361 pre-university colleges in the state, only 461 colleges have dedicated physical education instructors. This lack of resources has raised concerns about the state of sports education in Karnataka[1]. MLC S. V. Sankanur expressed these concerns during the inauguration of a State-level Kho-Kho tournament organized by the PU Department in collaboration with S. S. PU College on November 9.
Sankanur emphasized that out of the total 1203 Government PU Colleges in Karnataka, only one college has a full-time Physical Education teacher. This situation highlights the need for more investment and attention to sports education in pre-university institutions.
Controversies
In recent times, the college faced a controversy related to the attire of students. A group of students attempted to enter the college premises wearing kesari (saffron) shawls. This incident led to tensions within the college, prompting the administration to suspend classes for a day. This incident occurred amidst a larger debate about dress codes and cultural symbols, reflecting the broader societal discussions in the region.[2]
The college administration, represented by Professor S B Jadhav, took swift action to maintain order within the institution, ensuring the safety and harmony of the students and staff.[3]
