Shouvik Chakraborty is an Indian computer scientist.[1] and currently a Lecturer in Computer Science & Technology and the In-Charge of the Robotics and Innovation Laboratory at M.B.C. Institute of Engineering and Technology[2]. His research interests include Digital image processing and Image analysis, Medical image computing, Soft computing, Evolutionary computation, Visual cryptography, Machine learning. He is a member of the IEEE and several other professional bodies.
Early life and education
Born to Mrs. Mitali Chakraborty, a housewife and Mr. Subrata Chakraborty, a banker with the United Bank of India. He completed his 10th (Madhyamik Pariksha) and 12th (higher secondary) from Hooghly Branch Government School in 2008 and 2010 respectively. After clearing the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE), he took admission to the Bachelor of Technology course in 2010 under Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (presently known as Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology) and studied Computer Science and Engineering. He lost his parents in a gap of one month in 2012 when he was in the second year of his graduation course. He secured 2nd position in his college in the undergraduate level. He received several job offers from various multinational companies like Tata Consultancy Services, ADP (company) etc. but, after qualifying Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in 2014, he gained admission in the Master of Engineering course to the University of Kalyani in Computer Science and Engineering and received All India Council for Technical Education national scholarship (2014-2016). He secured 4th position in the entrance test of Master of Engineering. at University of Kalyani. He ranked first in the university and cleared Master of Engineering in 2016. After qualifying Master's degree, he served National Informatics Centre Center as a software developer and was engaged in developing various projects of central and state government. He gained admission in Doctor of Philosophy course in 2017 by securing the first rank in Kalyani University Research Eligibility Test (KURET) 2017 at University of Kalyani in the department of Computer Science and Engineering under the principal supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Kalyani Mali and under the co-supervision of Sushmita Mitra [3]. He received DST INSPIRE fellowship in 2017 (during his Ph.D.) but he left the fellowship in 2019 and joined M.B.C. Institute of Engineering and Technology as a lecturer in Computer Science & Technology [4]. He also received Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Fellowship during his Ph.D. but he did not avail this fellowship. He is continuing his research activities as a Doctor of Philosophy|Ph.D. research scholar at University of Kalyani. Mr. Chakraborty is one of the top ten position holders in university in the Doctor of Philosophy coursework examination 2018. He has qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering consecutive 8 times (2014-2021). He qualified National Eligibility Test NET(LS) 3 times and UGC NET (LS and JRF) 2 times. Apart from this, he is also qualified in West Bengal State Eligibility Test (WBSET) in 2017.
Career and research
He is currently working on Medical image computing. He published several research articles in various national and international Journal and conferences[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. He is an author of various book chapters and published an edited book with Prof. (Dr.) Kalyani Mali.[12][13]
