Shoshana Perr (née Nekritz) was born on February 3, 1939,[1] in Bialystok, Poland, to Rabbi Yehuda Leib Nekritz and Menucha Ethel Nekritz. During World War II, her family fled to a small town near Vilna, which came under Soviet control shortly before the German invasion. Rabbi Yehuda Leib Nekritz, a religious Jew, was deported to Siberia by the Soviets for refusing to accept Russian citizenship. Menucha Ethel Nekritz managed to secure permission to accompany her husband and daughters to Siberia after persuading a Soviet officer. Shoshana is a granddaughter of Rabbi Avraham Yoffen, and great-granddaughter of the Alter of Novardok.[2]
Marriage and Family Life
Shoshana Perr married Rabbi Yechiel Perr, who is the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva of Far Rockaway. Shoshana was instrumental in the establishment and development of the yeshiva, actively participating in its strategic and educational decisions.[3]
Career
Shoshana Perr is renowned for her extensive career as a rebbetzin and social worker. She served as the Program Director of Camp Bnos in Liberty, NY, for over fifty years.[4] Her tenure is noted for several innovations, including the development of themed summer programs integrated with Torah lessons[5][6] and the creation of the Tisha B'Av Cantata, which she both wrote and directed.[7] Her contributions have been widely celebrated by generations of campers.
In addition to her work at Camp Bnos, Perr has practiced family and adolescent therapy for over three decades. She has supervised social workers at Counter Force, reflecting her ongoing commitment to social welfare and mental health.[8]
