Shivanand Hulyalkar[1][2][3] (born 15th June 1975) is an Indian politician affiliated with the Indian National Congress[4]. He hails from Pune in the Maharashtra State of India. Known for his dynamic leadership and compassionate nature, Hulyalkar [5][6][7]has held various significant positions within the Indian National Congress, both at the state and central levels of government.[8]

Early Life

Born on June 15th, 1975, Shivanand Hulyalkar[9][10] is the offspring of Mother Laxmi Bai and Father Paragonda Hulyalkar. His father, a former IAS officer in the Maharashtra Government, had established strong connections with prominent figures such as late Smt. Indira Gandhi and Shri Rajiv Gandhi. Hulyalkar[11][12] [13]received his education in Pune and holds an MBA and Doctorate from Symbiosis, following his graduation (B.Com. LLB). Despite clearing the UPSC exam and being selected for the IAS, he decided to enter Indian politics and aligned himself with the Indian National Congress to serve the nation.

Political Career

Having joined the Indian National Congress in 1995, Hulyalkar [14][15]quickly rose through the ranks. He began as the General Secretary of Maharashtra N.S.U.I, where he played an instrumental role in motivating the youth of Maharashtra to participate actively in political activities. Recognizing his efforts, the senior party leaders promoted him to various positions, including Vice President of Maharashtra N.S.U.I and Vice President of Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress.

Throughout his political career, Hulyalkar[16][17][18]held a range of roles and responsibilities within the Indian National Congress, including Vice Chairman of the All India Powerloom Board, Minister of Textile (Rank of State Minister), Congress: All India Media Co-ordinator, and Vice President of the Planning Commission Maharashtra.

Hulyalkar's [19][20]formative years in politics were marked by his dedication to guiding and motivating the youth of Maharashtra. His success as General Secretary of Maharashtra N.S.U.I led to increased responsibilities, and his sincere qualities propelled him to subsequent leadership roles.

His [23]roles included Vice-Chairman of the All India Powerloom Board, Minister of Textile (Rank of State Minister), Congress: All India Media Co-ordinator, and Vice President of the Planning Commission Maharashtra. He was also appointed Vice President of Shipping Corporation India and Director of Railway Board India during 1997-98.[24][25]

Additionally, he was actively involved in various state election committees, including those of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Kerala. He was also a Vice President of the Rahul Priyanka brigade of the All India Congress Party.

Family Legacy

Coming from a distinguished lineage, Hulyalkar's[31] [32]family has a history of serving both the government and society. His mother, Late Smt Laxmi Bai Hulyalkar, was involved in social work and served as the chairman of Indra Bank. His younger brother, Mr. Subhash Hulyalkar, is a prominent Supreme Court lawyer, while his wife, Smt. Savita Hulyalkar, is a successful engineer and businesswoman, owning the Gold Gym chain in India.[33]
