Sheyi Cole is a British actor who studied at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.[1] His breakout performance was in Steve McQueen's Small Axe (anthology) playing the title role ‘Alex Wheatle (film)|Alex Wheatle’ in the 4th episode of the anthology with Variety describing him as having “a brainy sullen sensuality that could take him far”[2]. In 2020 Sheyi was selected as one Screen International's 'Stars of Tomorrow' [3]
Career
Sheyi’s breakout performance in Steve McQueen’s multi award-winning Small Axe (anthology) (including Golden Globes, BAFTAs, RTS, Hollywood Critics Association, and Emmy, Gotham nominated), playing the title role ‘Alex Wheatle’ in the 4th episode of the anthology series sparked great interest in his talent, with Variety (magazine)|Variety describing him as having “a brainy sullen sensuality that could take him far”, especially as he was still training at Guildhall while filming[4]
It was his performance in Small Axe that lead him to be selected as one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow 2020 [5]. Prior to Guildhall School of Music and Drama|Guildhall, he was a part of the Open Door scheme which secured him an agent prior to starting drama school.
Sheyi plays a guest lead in SAG, Golden Globe, Emmy winning Atlanta (TV series)|ATLANTA opposite Donald Glover on FX and Disney+. Sheyi will also be starring in the Netflix feature The Homeless World Cup [6] alongside Micheal Ward, Bill Nighy, Susan Wokoma and Callum Scott Howells. He also played one of the leads in the BFI Films/ Warner Bros feature Boxing Day (2021 film)|Boxing Day[7] that was released just before Christmas, opposite Aml Ameen and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
