Sheryll Ofner is the principal of Selwyn College, a secondary school in Auckland, New Zealand.[1]

Career

Sheryll spend her early years teaching at Howick College. She was the second principal of Howick College from mid 2006 to early 2009, before she was appointed as principal of Selwyn College at the start of term 2 in 2009.[2] Sheryll has spent the last 14 years as principal of Selwyn College.

Awards

In 2017, Sheryll was one of the 15 recipients of the 2017 Woolf Fisher Award for Education and Excellence.[3] This gave her a six day Evolving Vision course at Harvard, as well as a ten week trip around the United Kingdom and Europe.[4]

Controversies

In 2008, Howick College pupil Ross Kimpton sleepwalked to his death on a school first XI rugby trip to England and Ireland. Sheryll maintained that the students were well supervised on the night of the event, although students were photographed drinking beer on the night of the event, after they were given the team money to buy dinner, telling them not to drink alcohol, which was against the rules of the tour.[5][6]
