Shawn Mathews is an American musician, singer-songwriiter, actor and dancer. Currently playing the role of of Kevin G in the Mean Girls Musical National tour, he has released several musical tracks on Spotify,[1] Apple Music, and other streaming platforms. His single "Sunshine" was featured on several Spotify editorial playlists like Young and Free, Good Vibes, and many more. He was also the winner of the Zee TV reality show Dance India Dance North America in 2015.
Early Life
Mathews was born in Edison, New Jersey[2] to Indian American parents who immigrated to the United States in the 1990s. He was brought up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Central Dauphin High School and got a bachelor degree in music from Lebanon Valley College.[3]
Career
In 2015, Mathews won Zee TV's Dance India Dance North America from contestants across USA and Canada.[2]
In 2018, he won the Hershey Theatre Apollo Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a musical for his portrayal of Usnavi De La Vega in CD East's presentation of In the Heights|In The Heights.[4]
Between 2018 and 2023, Mathews released several of his singles and acted in various regional productions in the Central Pennsylvania area. In 2023, he joined the cast of The Mean Girls Musical national tour where is plays the role of Kevin G, the rapping mathlete.[5]
