Shaurya Gullaiya (born 23 December 2009) is a Canadian badminton player and sportsman.[1] He is a 2019 provincial champion in the junior age category, 2021- 2022 Canada Junior National U15 champion, and Silver medalist in 2022 XXX Pan Am Junior Championships.[2] As of September 2022, he has won multiple badminton tournaments in the junior age category from 2018 to 2022.[3] He is currently a member of "Canadian Junior National Team".[4]

Gullaiya gained attention from the badminton experts during 2021-22 Canada badminton tournaments, where he won several U-15, U-17, and U-19 age category titles when he was only aged 10. He was praised for his talent by the sports journalists.[5]

Gullaiya is known for attention to details and completes over 30 hours of badminton training every week. He has built a network of following on his social handles, where he shares videos about his training and badminton matches.

Early life and education

Gullaiya was born on 23 December 2009 in New Delhi, India. When he was young, his family moved to Canada. Right from his childhood, he was inclined towards sports, especially badminton. He started playing badminton recreationally at the age of 7 in group lessons in a private club in Mississauga, Toronto. His family and coach, realized his talent, they aspired him to start competing professionally when he was only 9. He got his inspiration from some of the greatest athletes from all sports, and tries to imbibe their work ethics into his game.

Career

Having identified his passion early in life, Shaurya decided to make his career in sports. With support from his father, he attended training at PB Djarum for approximately two months, and since then he has never looked back. Within a period of one year, Shaurya became the U11 boys' singles provincial champion in Ontario, Canada. He has taken part in various badminton matches, including the YUZU Isotonic Magelang Open 2022.[6]

Shaurya is known for his performances at the Pan Am Games 2022 and the Black Knight Ontario Jr. A Championship.[7]
