Sharon Keenan (8 May 1948 – 30 September 2017) was a London Bath-based painter[1] and sculptor. [2] She lived in London, from where most of her work was commissioned. She retired to Combe Down, near Bath in Somerset, where she was teaching and involved with the UK Council of the American Museum in Bath.[3]

Education and work

Educated at the Harrow School of Art & Design Jewellery Department, Keenan also trained in classical art, learning about portraiture and sculpture. She then went to work for Royal Doulton where she created a range of sculptural figurines[4] HMS Ajax, HMS Benmore, HMS Lalla Rookh, HMS Nelson, HMS Chieftan, HMS Pocahontas. Sharon was educated at Harrow School of Art progressing to the Central School of Art. Public Commissions have been for the City of London, The Territorial Army and for the Gibraltar Heritage Trust with Admiral Rooke on Gibraltar’s Devil’s Tongue Battery.[citation needed]

Art work and exhibitions

She exhibited at the Society of Women Artists in 2017 exhibiting her exquisite bronze ‘Dear Africa’ [5] at the Mall Galleries London SW1, 2017 Summer Exhibition.

Public commissions

Among her public commissions were those for The City of London bronze plaque of Admiral Arthur Phillip,[6]Kilmarnock City Council, The Territorial Army and the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, for which she sculpted the statue of Admiral George Rooke situated on Gibraltar’s Devil’s Tongue Battery. [7]

Commercial work

She has also completed commissions for Royal Doulton (Ships Figurehead Series),[8][9] the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, Loctite International, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason, and Madame Tussauds. The Chartered Institute of Marketing, and the East India Club have also commissioned her work.
