Shami Vriksha (Bengali শমী বৃক্ষ) is an ancient tree located in Dakshin Dinajpur, India.[1] [2] This ancient tree holds significant mythological and religious value derived from the epic Mahabharat. According to ancient scriptures, this tree is believed to be the very place where the Pandavas concealed their weapons during their one-year exile in disguise. [3][4] [5]

Mythological Significance

According to Hindu mythology, the Shami Vriksha tree is associated with the epic tale of the Mahabharata. The Pandavas, who were exiled from their kingdom, embarked on a one-year period of anonymity. They hid their divine weapons in the branches of the Shami Vriksha to prevent their enemies from discovering them. The tree served as a crucial hiding spot, safeguarding their powerful arsenal throughout their exile. [6][7]

Legend has it that the tree provided shelter and protection to the Pandavas, ensuring the safety of their weapons. This act of concealment allowed them to live unrecognized and complete their period of exile successfully. The tree thus became a symbol of resilience, fortitude, and divine intervention in the face of adversity.[8]
