Shakil Khan (Bengali: শাকিল খান) is a Bangladeshi singer, best known as a founding member and main vocalist of the rock band NOVA. He later returned to singing with a solo album in 2016.[1][2]
Early Life and Education
Shakil Khan graduated from university with an honours and masters in economics and an MBA in marketing.[3] He studied in the music institution IFA, Pabna, under the guidance of Respected Late Bellal Jowardar.[4] Alongside studying in school early on Shakil took a strong interest in singing in 1975, and began to learn the harmonium under the guidance of his father.[5] He went on to win many awards in singing competitions from 1976 to 1982[6]
Career
NOVA
Shakil Khan was a founding member and main vocalist of the band NOVA, performing on the album Ahoban in the 1990s.[7] He first started singing during the 1970s, performing on Bangladesh Television (BTV) in 1977. He sang songs including:
- "Shojoni" (সজনী সঁাঝের তারা হয়ে)[8]
- "Rakhal Chele" (রাখালছেলে)[9]
- "Duti" (দ্যুতি)[10]
- "Khokon Kothao Nai" (খোকন কোথাও নাই)[11]
- "Rokhe Aladin" (রোখে আলাদীন)[12]
- "Nova" (নোভা)[13]
- Duet "Neshar Agun Jwele" (নেশার আগুন জ্বেলে)[14]
Solo Career
As a solo singer, Shakil Khan performed many times on BTV and other private Bangladeshi TV channels from 1983 to 1986. During this time, he has given many interviews on various Bangladeshi news channels.[15] In 2016, Shakil Khan released a YouTube-based album titled Bochor Por, which included tracks such as:

Shakil worked in corporate management:
- Director, Corporate Affairs & Logistics at BEXIMCO Group (1997–2024).[20]
- Manager at Apex Tannery Group (1993–1996)[21]
Musical Style
Shakil's early work with NOVA is associated with psychedelic and progressive rock. His solo material reportedly blends modern Bangladeshi rock melody and pop influences.[22]
